Welcome to Great Hills Cotons, home of Malagasy Cotons de Tulear. We are located in the hill country of Central Texas, as the song says, "deep in the heart of Texas." Our dogs are the rare, Malagasy Royal Coton de Tulear, originally brought to the United States from the island of Madagascar in 1974 by Dr. Jay Russell. Cotons are very intelligent and have a sweet temperament. They love to please their people and are often called the “clown dog” or the “anti-depressant dog” because they make people laugh. They do not shed, are hypoallergenic and have a scent more akin to human babies than dogs.

Our Cotons are raised in our home as beloved members of our family. We are mCTCA Code of Ethics Breeders. The mCTCA has the strictest breeding standards of any breeding club in the world to protect the Coton de Tulear breed. Our goal is to protect the Malagasy Coton through adherence to mCTCA breeding standards, and produce dogs of excellent health and temperament for which the mCTCA is known.

Our Dogs

Emma Windsor Rose

Tri-Color Female
Length - 14”
Height – 9”
Weight - 10 ½ lbs.

Emma, meaning strong, tender and “the healer,” has definitely been a healing companion to our family after the loss of our beloved golden retriever of 14 years. Emma was the first Coton to join our family. She has awed us with her fine features and regal beauty, made us laugh with her typical, funny Coton gestures, and has been a loving, faithful companion. She is very sweet, sensitive and cuddly, but also can match any young pup with her spunky, playful spirit. Born on the 4th of July, full of energy and vigor, we often call her “our little firecracker.” Chasing the ball and playing fetch is one of her favorite pastimes. She loves going for walks, is a people lover and a great travel companion.

Astre de Jaspe Mon Belami

Tri-Color Male
Length – 13 ½ “
Height - 10 ½ “
Weight – 14 lbs.

Jasper’s puppy name was Astro, Latin for Star. He had a stellar personality as a pup and continues to live up to his name. Jasper is very obedient and comes running enthusiastically to be included in whatever is happening. He has a genuine interest in his human and canine pack, which he shows by his attentive, faithful companionship. He has a gentle disposition, and is always eager to please. Jasper is the perfect gentleman to our top dog, Emma, and always lets her go first. He is also very protective of her and his human family. Jasper loves taking long walks and is also a great snuggle buddy. The sire of our first amazing and beautiful litter, Jasper lives up to the meaning of his adult name also — “Star of many colors, bearing precious gifts, my handsome friend.”

Emma Rose gave birth to our first amazing and beautiful litter on November 12 & 13, 2013! Our first little boy was born at 11:10 p.m., November 12, 2013. He has been very active ever since he was born. Our little girl was born at 12:02 a.m., November 13, 2013. She is a bit more reserved, but has quickly caught up with her brother. Emma has been an excellent mother to her pups and has quite enjoyed them.

Texas Star

Our first boy, tri-color

Star was named after his dad because of his outstanding personality. The firstborn in the litter, he has been very outgoing from the beginning. He has so many good personality characteristics rolled into one package—he is outgoing and like his dad, always anxious to engage in whatever is going on, whether with people or his canine furry friends. He is very attentive, intelligent, and a fast learner. He is very playful, but can also be very calm and cuddly. Star is also gorgeous!—with his deep dark eyes set against his white face and tri-color ears.

Texas Rose

Our first girl, tri-color

Rosie is a beautiful, dark tri-color female, expected to keep much of her color. She is our sweetheart. She loves to play with Star and her people and is intelligent and quick to learn. More reserved than Star, she is exceptionally cuddly and sweet. Rosie has a gorgeous coat with many subtleties of colors that pictures cannot quite capture.
